A Bachelors degree at the ETH Department of Biology is a 6 semester program. The department also offers a 3 semester Masters degree. The beginning of the bachelors program consists predominantly of fundamental biological theory lectures which are accompanied by internships (practical application). As the course of study progresses the balance between lectures and practical application is gradually more weighted in favor of practical work. In the third year of study students are required to complete so called block courses which provide insight and experience with actual research projects.
For the masters program the students have a choice of 10 majors ranging from ‘Ecology and Evolution’ to ‘Biological Chemistry’.
